ノイズだなんだと言っておきながら、その歴史や、細分化されたジャンルや、代表的なアーティストに関する知識などがあまりに少ないことは自覚しているので、時折思い出したかのように Google で検索したり、Wikipedia を読んでみたりしている。
気になった記事のタブは開きっぱなしにしておいて、何度も繰り返し読むから、ブラウザのタブがどんどん増えていって、わけが分からなくなる。
昨夜、寝る前に、開けっぱなしのタブを次から次へと眺めて「これはもう閉じてもいいや、これはまだ開けておこう」ってやっていたら、Wikipedia のこの記事に目が止まった。
真ん中くらいにある「ハーシュ・ノイズ・ウォール」というのがすごく気になっていて。
主義や思想が、ではなくて、「壁」だから。不快なほど荒れた騒音の壁 Harsh Noise Wall ってどんな壁なんだろうって、すごく気になる。
気になるから「HNW 宣言」というのを読んでみたかったんだけど、記事からのリンクが切れていて読めなかった。読めないのかぁ、とこれまでは諦めていたんだけど、Google で検索してみたら、あった。

hikokomori → hikikomori 「引きこもり」の typo かな。
situ → 前後から、たぶん situationist のことを指しているんだと思う。原文でも situ になってる。
vigilants → vigils か vigilantes もしくは the vigilant あたりかしら。
タイトルにも本文にも出てくる “Bruitist” は、原文の Bruitiste に則して考えれば、bruit（ノイズ）-iste （主義者）くらいの意味なのかなと。
機械翻訳が対応できなかったのは Bruitiste が造語だから、と考えるのが妥当なのかなぁ（フランス語はよくわかんないから DeepL による英訳を盲信しきっている前提だけど）。
接尾辞 -iste は必ずしも「〜主義者」ではなくて「〜な人」くらいの意味で使われることが多いけれど、これはmanifeste なんだから、「主義者」でいいんだと思う。
そうなると、Mur Bruitiste というのは音の壁じゃなくて、人の壁ということになるのかな。
スタート地点の Wikipedia の記事にも「ジャンル/運動」って書いてあるし。みんなで立ちはだかろう、みたいな。もしそうなら、とたんに関心がなくなる。
でも、引用元のサイトには、”Bruitist Wall” を Harsh Noise Wall に置き換えて翻訳することを著者が許諾したって書いてある。やっぱり音の壁なのかしら。
むずかしいなぁ、よくわかんないなぁ。
関心が薄くなってきているのを自覚しながら何回か読んでみたんだけど、ずいぶんと抽象的で、イメージするのに時間がかかる上にそのイメージが正しいのかどうかの確信も持てない。
確信は持てないけど、何度も読んでると分かってくる気がするし、分かってくる気がすると共感するところもどんどん増えてきて。
これが書かれたのは 2006 年だそうだけれど（引用元での掲載は 2018 年？）、2023 年の今にこれを読むと、予言のように読めなくもないような気すらする。

“Losing all hope is freedom.” は、わたしがずっと思っていることだし。欲望も願望も捨てられやしないんだけど。

『ミュージック – 「現代音楽」をつくった作曲家たち』とか『新・音楽の解読』とかを読んでいると、誰のことを暗に名指ししているのかが分かってしまって鼻白む部分もあるけれど、こっちの方がまだわかりやすいというか、もっと直接的な感じはする。
そうそう、いろいろ Google で検索してたら、ジャンルとしての Harsh Noise Wall については、この説明がわかりやすかった（原文ママ）。
